365 days. 525,600 minutes (no, we’re not breaking out the Rent soundtrack). I’ve finally passed one year living in England.
And what a rollercoaster it’s been!
I don’t really know what I want to say other than THANK YOU.
Thank you to everyone who’s supported me through the great times (all the traveling!) and the bad (all the crying!) I genuinely feel like I’ve learned so much about myself this last year and it wouldn’t have been possible without the love, support and funny dog pictures from friends and family to get me through.
I think back to all the places I’ve explored (like Oxford, Bath, Bristol, Conwy, Cardiff, Margate, Dover, Stonehenge, London, Canterbury, Edinburgh…) and all the milestones I’ve passed (driving on the leftside of the road, landing my first UK job, surviving all the buses and trains…).
There were crappy times (like losing my pup in Canada, missing family birthdays and holidays, feeling crazy anxious and overwhelmed) and I know there will still be rough patches but I feel much more able to deal with them.
My time as an expat has really helped me reflect on who I want to be and where. This is my life and I want to be an active participant, not an extra in the background.
If you’re at all interested in living abroad, please don’t push the dream aside! This year has been incredible and I wouldn’t have changed it for any job, experience or even a giant pizza. I am forever grateful for this rollercoaster.
Who knows what Year Two will bring?
